Malcolm X House

About This Project

Malcolm X House, 1875, Roxbury, MA

Malcolm X stayed for long periods of time while growing up at this 72 Dale Street home in the early 20th century. It is the only extant residence from his development years. It was also home to his sister, Ella Little Collins, a civil rights activist and an important influence on the young Malcolm.

Historic Boston assisted the owner with a comprehensive conditions assessment and conceptual design for the house’s restoration and re-use as housing. HBI also subsidized the covering of the roof with a rubber membrane and other stabilization measures to prevent water penetration through the roof until funds can be identified for preservation of the historic home.
