15 Mar Old South Meeting House Series to Feature Noah Hicks on the Sip and Spoke Bike Kitchen
In April, Old South Meeting House is co-hosting a series Churches, Cafes & Community Centers: Historic Preservation for Boston’s Neighborhoods with the Livable Streets Alliance. On Friday, April 28th at 12:15 PM, Noah Hicks of the Sip and Spoke Bike Kitchen will be discussing the activation of the Upham’s Corner Comfort Station.
The program will take place at the Old South Meetinghouse on Friday, April 28th at 12:15 p.m. Entitled Activating a Historic Site — Sip & Spoke Bike Kitchen, Dorchester, the program focuses on HBI’s planned transformation of the? Upham’s Corner Comfort Station, a stucco and tile “mission style” building adjacent to the historic Dorchester North Burying Ground, built in 1912 to support Boston’s expanding streetcar system.
The Comfort Station closed down in 1977 and has been unused since. Today, Historic Boston Incorporated (HBI) is rehabilitating the comfort station to help preserve and tell the story of Dorchester’s urbanization and transportation growth in the early 20th century. When the project is complete, this historic structure will serve as a vital neighborhood business and gathering place, featuring bicycle repair and cappuccinos! Hear about the ongoing transformation from entrepreneur, Dorchester native, and local history activist Noah Hicks.
The program is $6 for the public and free for members of the Old South Meetinghouse.
