January 15, 2019 Brian Swett is New Co-Chair of HBI’s Council of Advisors
HBI is pleased to announce that Brian Swett will be the new co-chair of HBI’s Council of Advisors. Brian, who has served as an HBI advisor for three years, replaces Matthew Kiefer as co-chair with Carolyn Osteen.
Brian is Director of Cities and Sustainable Real Estate at Arup, an independent firm of designers, planners, engineers, consultants and technical specialists, working across every aspect of the built environment.
Prior to joining Arup, Brian served as Chief of Environment, Energy and Open Space for the City of Boston, launching Greenovate Boston and Climate Ready Boston; and updating the City’s Climate Action Plan. Under his leadership, Boston was recognized by the American Council for an Energy-Efficient Economy as the #1 city in the country for energy efficiency policies and programs in their 2013 and 2015 biennial rankings.
Previously, Brian was a development project manager and sustainability lead with Boston Properties where he advised and oversaw LEED and sustainability related initiatives throughout the Boston region and across the company.
In addition to his support for Historic Boston, Brian demonstrates his personal enthusiasm for sustainability issues as an advisory board member for the Urban Land Institute (ULI) Center for Sustainability and a board member for the Boston Green Academy.
HBI’s Council of Advisors is a small group of distinguished individuals committed to HBI’s mission of strengthening Boston’s neighborhoods through historic preservation. Advisors are ambassadors for HBI in the community and provide strategic guidance on projects, introduce HBI to important technical, financial and community resources, and promote the work of HBI within their circles of influence.
HBI is grateful to Matthew Kiefer for his many years of service as Co-Chair. He continues as a member of the Advisors.
