Craft Beer Cellar Opens at Roslindale Substation

Roslindale resident and beer aficionado Brian Reeves opened his new retail store, Craft Beer Cellar on Saturday and hundreds of Roslindale friends and neighbors helped in the celebration.

Even before Mayor Martin Walsh arrived to cut the ribbon on the new business, a long line of shoppers had formed to purchase from the hundreds of craft beer offerings at Craft Beer Cellar. “There’s pent-up demand in Roslindale,” said Reeves, “We have many options for the beer lover and those with discriminating tastes.”

Craft Beer Cellar is the first of two businesses that will occupy the restored Roslindale Substation, the 1911 MBTA switching station that was vacant for more than 40 years. Peregrine Group LLC, Roslindale Village Main Street and Historic Boston Inc. collaborated to find new uses for the historic building and to restore it for commercial purposes. In 2017, Dorchester restaurateur Chris Douglass will open a new 150-seat restaurant on the Substation’s main floor. Fit out for that enterprise begins in spring 2017.

Historic Boston Inc.’s Kathy Kottaridis was on hand for the speaking program in the substation’s main level.” The substation’s renewal shows how vital historic buildings are to our sense of community. HBI is so proud to have been part of the collaboration that brought this building back into the life of this community.”

In her remarks, Peregrine Group’s principal Beverly Gallo noted the support of the Roslindale community in her company’s efforts to restore the Substation and build 43 new residential apartments next door.”We’re so proud of this project because it responds to the community’s goals.”

Mayor Walsh emphasized the importance of preserving important buildings like the Substation for new uses.?He congratulated Brian Reeves and the Roslindale Community. “Roslindale Village is so much stronger because of this project. It’s an example for the rest of the city.”

Craft Beer Cellar is at 4228 Washington Street in Roslindale. They’re open Monday – Saturday 10 to 10, Sunday 12 to 5. For more on Craft Beer Cellar’s opening see
