“That was the most fun ever!”
“Who knew?”
“This is so wonderful.”
“It took a bit of organizing?and it was really great.”
            “Standing room only!”
“Would you present that again for us?”
While each comment referred to a specific program, they express the overwhelming spirit of Boston?s first city-wide Preservation Month celebration.  In case proof was needed, Preservation Month re-affirmed that Bostonians are perpetually eager to explore, discover, learn from, enjoy and be inspired by aspects of their city?s heritage, in and out of their daily paths.
Preservation Month 2012, Boston [un] Common, truly presented a feast reflecting the city?s rich and varied cultural treasures.  The Boston Landmarks Commission, the city?s municipal preservation agency, compiled the preservation month calendar with the encouragement of Mayor Thomas M. Menino.  A total of 38 organizations embraced the idea and submitted calendar entries…many taking the opportunity and making the effort to present new programs.

The Boston Landmarks Commission staff received great feedback and much gratification, despite some calendar crunches and the anxiety of first-time preparations.  We forged new partnerships, developed events, and realized that the celebration can be even bigger, better and easier for all if the planning starts earlier next time.
Yes, there will be another city-wide preservation month celebration in 2013!  The BLC plans to start its calendar outreach and event planning in the fall.  If you have ideas before then, please contact us:

Thank you all for making the first ever Boston city-wide preservation month celebration such a success!
