06 Aug 2026 HBI’s Annual Celebration; Raising the Roof for the Phillips Brooks Memorial Reading Room
Historic Boston was pleased to welcome our Board of Directors and community partners to the beautifully restored Roslindale Substation on July 29th. The night was a great success with friends and community partners, raising over $11,000 for saving 1896 Phillips Brooks Memorial Reading Room in Hyde Park; funds are to put a new roof on before winter. Thank you to Harvest Cloud Cafe and The Substation for providing venue and refreshments!

HBI, Hyde Park Historical Society, Southwest Boston CDC, and the Blue Hill Community Church have been collaborating on efforts to preserve the Phillips Brooks Memorial Reading Room. As a collective, we are working towards reactivation of the 1896 reading room so it’s a functioning community asset once again. Thank you to all that made it out to the Substation to help preserve the Brooks Memorial Reading Room!
