May’s Office Artifact: Roslindale Substation Trading Cards

This month, we give you our set of trading cards, generously gifted to us by our friends at the Roslindale Substation!

Built in 1911, the Roslindale Substation was part of the Boston Elevated Railway Company’s then revolutionary alternating electric current power system, and was one of six nearly identical converter substations built in and around Boston at that time.

It was in operation until 1970, then sat unused for almost 40 years. In 2011, the Boston Redevelopment Authority tentatively designated HBI and Roslindale Village Main Street to develop the substation. The Substation was redeveloped in partnership with the Peregrine Group LLC, who remain the owners and operators of the transformed Substation today!
