25 Jul Meet Erika Tauer
Historic Boston Inc. is pleased to welcome Erika Tauer to our team this month as our new office manager. Erika brings great organizational skills to HBI along with a keen interest in history. Here’s your chance to meet her.
Greetings everyone!
I’m Erika Tauer, Historic Boston’s new office manager, and I’m absolutely thrilled to be involved in supporting important preservation projects throughout the city. I currently live in Lowell, and while I am not a resident of Boston, I am a graduate of UMass Boston. Under an accelerated program I graduated with both my BA and MA in History in December of 2022.
In my final years at UMass Boston, I devoted my personal historical interests to better understanding the issues that continue to confront Native peoples in Massachusetts. I ultimately wrote my MA thesis on the National Day of Mourning, a Wampanoag protest against Thanksgiving started in 1970 by Wamsutta Frank James. I’m honored to have gained these perspectives, and hope my experience with Indigenous Studies can bring new insight to HBI’s aims.
More recently, I was fortunate to serve as Old North Illuminated’s Administrative Coordinator from August 2022 to June of 2023. My time at Old North Church showed me the joys of working at historic sites, piqued my interest in architecture, and instilled within me a hunger to know Boston better.
As a student of history, I recognize the necessary role of HBI in not only preserving historic buildings, but perhaps more importantly, in repurposing these spaces to serve the communities they’re within; be that as affordable housing, fostering sustainability, or supporting Boston’s entrepreneurs of color. I’m excited and honored to work for a non-profit that ensures historic spaces continue to work for the communities that surround them.
