07 Oct Pure Joy Flowers Opens at the Vertullo Building
Pure Joy Flowers, owned and operated by Marta and Wesley Thomas, opened this August at the Vertullo Building in Hyde Park. We are so excited to have them at Vertullo and to celebrate their opening we decided to ask them a few questions about Pure Joy. Read below:
Q:What is the name of your business?
A: The name of our business is Pure Joy flowers from the book of James 1:2-4 and it is a representation of Wesley and me. All of our trials are nothing but pure joy, and believe me, we encounter them everyday! We thought it was a perfect message for not only us, but as floral designers, all our clients… It is our mission to bring ‘joy’ to each and everyone of them with our flowers!
Q: What services do you provide?
A: We are a full floral design shop. We specialize in floral decor for weddings, Quinceneros, corporate or any special event, small or large.
Q: What is the greatest challenge of running a small business?
A: The greatest challenge of running our small business is being a ‘Jack of all trades’, many times without personal monetary compensation. We DO IT ALL! Not just being the floral artist and the many phases this requires, but being the financial adviser, bookkeeper, the public relations personnel, technological administrator, maintenance personnel, buyer, supplier, delivery, social media communicator, photographer, the marriage ‘fixer upper’ for forgotten anniversaries and the list goes on.
Q: What is the most rewarding part of the job?
A: The faces of my clients! The tears rolling down my bride’s faces when we present them with their specially designed bouquet. The hugs of teens when we design them a last minute corsage or boutonnières for their high school prom and at a ridiculous cost, in comparison to other florist who take advantage of their needs. Simply said… Their joyous faces!!
Q: Why did you choose the Vertullo building for your business? Why Hyde Park?
A: We are 100% Hyde Parkers! We bought our first home here in Hyde Park when our children were babies (1 1/2 years old and 9 months), now they are 21 and 22! Both of our kids attended school here as well, from Kindergarten to high school and are now in college.
We love our ‘Small Town In the City’ and will always choose to support our neighborhood. In 2008, Pure Joy flowers opened its doors to the community. Since then we have grown and needed a space that was more accessible to our clients. We contacted Hyde Park Mains Street, as we knew they would be aware of any available spaces in Hyde Park, we visited other storefronts and this one spoke to us. As soon as we entered the empty space, we saw our personality all over its walls and ceiling. In conclusion, 84 Fairmount Ave is our new home and our customers have shown positive approval!
