15 May Remembering Chuck Grigsby
Historic Boston was saddened to learn recently of the passing of Charles T. Grigsby, a former member of HBI’s Board of Directors and Council of Advisors.
Chuck led the City of Boston’s Department of Neighborhood Development under Mayor Menino, where he steered investments in affordable housing, Main Street districts and Empowerment Zone development projects. Chuck’s interest in strong urban neighborhoods included historic preservation as a strategy for renewal. Under his leadership, Nubian Square (then Dudley Square) saw substantial public investments in long overlooked buildings including the former Boys and Girls Club and Palladio Hall. Chuck also led an initiative to build grocery stores in Grove Hall and in Roslindale Village, new buildings that helped infuse those historic commercial districts with new energy.
Chuck provided founding leadership to the Life Initiative, a community finance venture of the Massachusetts Insurance industry, and from 2007 until his retirement, he led the Mass Capital Growth Corporation, a quasi-public community development financing entity with strong focus on small business capital lending.
Please join us in remembering Chuck’s as a talented professional and committed public leader.
