07 Apr Rolling out the blue carpet
Hundreds of people visit the retail establishments in the Old Corner Bookstore complex every day, but the lesser known story is that dozens also visit the upper floors of our building for the four businesses that operate there.
Enter at 3 School Street, and you can climb three flights of stairs to visit a law firm, an escape room game center, a non-profit literacy organization, or Historic Boston Inc. The warm oak staircase and wainscoting of our common areas was designed by Boston architect William Rawn Associates in the 1980s, and though the wood and structure is in great shape, the wood desperately needed cleaning and refinishing, and the entire area was due for a fresh coat of paint and new business and way-finding signage.
Over the last month, HBI enlisted Level Five Painting to refinish the woodwork and install a fresh coat of paint, followed by a new blue stair runner installed by Done Right Carpets. The firm Other Tomorrows is helping us with new signage design, and new art is on order.
As Historic Boston is plans major updates to the Old Corner Bookstore, we are keeping the building in good order. Come visit!
