September’s Office Artifact of the Month: Landing of the Troops, September 30, 1768

This month, we give you our copy of the hand-printed and painted “Landing of the Troops” first engraved and printed by Paul Revere c.1770, lovingly gifted and authentically recreated by The Printing Office of Edes and Gill!

“On Friday Sept 30 1768 the ships of WAR, armed Schooners, Transports &c. Came up the Harbor and Anchored round the TOWN; their cannon loaded, a Spring on their cables, as for a regular Siege. At noon on Saturday October the 1st the fourteenth & twenty-ninth Regiments a detatchment from the 59th Regt. and Train of artillery with two pieces of Cannon, landed on the Long Wharf; there Formed and Marched with insolent Parade, Drums beating, Fifes playing and Colors flying up KING STREET Each soldier having received 16 rounds of Powder and Ball.

To the Earl of Hillsborough, HIS MAJESTY’s Secretary of State for America. THIS VIEW of the only well Plan’d EXPEDITION, formed for supporting ye dignity of BRITAIN & chastising ye insolence of AMERICA is humbly inscrib’d.”
