Visit (Virtually or Actually) the New Roslindale Substation Exhibit

Roslindale Village Main Street recently unveiled Roslindale’s Engineering Marvel, a history exhibit that traces the construction, operation, decline and renewal of the 1911 Roslindale Substation, on the lower floor of the renewed substation at 4228 Washington St. It is available for public viewing during business hours.

The exhibit chronicles the substation’s history as a switching station for the emerging streetcar system in early 20th century Boston, and efforts to preserve it at various times after it closed in the 1970s.

While a visit to the Substation is a wonderful way to appreciate its history and location (and a beer by local brewer Trillium!), you can also arm-chair travel to the building by following this link to an electronic version of the exhibit on your computer.
