2017 Illuminus Art Festival Features Old Corner Bookstore in AR

Historic Boston’s new augmented reality installation at the Old Corner Bookstore – Look Again was selected to be part of this year’s Illuminus Art Festival in downtown Boston on November 3rd and 4th.  A partnership between the non-profit Illuminus and the Downtown Boston BID, the event featured 19 individual art projects featuring light, music, dance and technology over two evenings

Look Again is one of several planned efforts to celebrate the Old Corner Bookstore’s history during its 300th year in 2018.   The AR installation is the work of artists Ethan Vogt and Giovanna Casimiro who were commissioned to use digital technology to tell the building’s story using historic photographs that have been taken of the building over the last 150 years.

HBI’s Board, Advisors and friends were welcomed to a simultaneous reception hosted by Kathy MacNeil at Millennium Partners where the artists explained the technology and its application to the interpretation of historic buildings.  The artists and volunteers were on-site for both evenings with tablets donated by the Timothy Smith Network of Roxbury, and with instructions available to participants to try out the application.

The Look Again app is available in the Apple Store or in Android by visiting www.historicboston.org/ar.
